The Cardigans

In this category, I'll introduce bands I recommend and that have influenced me. These are albums I've listened to until my ears wore out, and I recommend them with complete confidence. Since copyright matters seem a bit complicated, I'll mostly avoid using images.

First up is The Cardigans.

Long Gone Before Daylight

I absolutely love The Cardigans, a Swedish band, but my particular favorite album is Long Gone Before Daylight, released in 2003. While some might think of their second album Life, which includes "Carnival," when they think of The Cardigans, I personally consider this 5th album to be their masterpiece.

What Kind of Album Is It?

In a word, it's quiet, melancholic, yet solid—a somewhat mature Swedish pop album.

The guitar sounds aren't flashy. The drums are restrained. But that's precisely why each sound lingers in your ear. Vocalist Nina's voice is transparent and beautiful, yet in contrast to that singing voice, the lyrics depict deep emotions and complex human relationships.

Sleepless nights, when you're lost in thought, after a breakup—I think this is music that fits perfectly in those moments.

My Two Favorite Tracks

"For What It's Worth" starts quietly and gradually builds. I love how it begins with almost whispered singing, then emotions overflow in the chorus.

"Live And Learn" has an incredibly memorable melody that sticks in your head after one listen. It's melancholic, yet somehow conveys a sense of hope.

For Those Unfamiliar with The Cardigans

Many people probably think, "The Cardigans? Never heard of them." But you might have heard the song "Lovefool," which was used in the film Romeo + Juliet. That's the band that sang that bright, catchy pop song.

However, this album is completely different from that pop sound. In fact, it's the opposite. Dark, heavy, yet beautiful.

By the way, they apparently had their first Japan concert in 12 years this year. I wanted to go...
